The Society begins: Feb 18th, at the Ash Wednesday Service
Regular Meeting Date & Time: 6:30 PM on Wednesdays beginning Feb 25th.
As part of our Spiritual Formation for the upcoming season of Lent, you are all invited to join us in The Lenten Society.
The Lenten Society is a temporary Religious Society formed for the season of Lent. It is open to anyone who wishes to walk with us. Members of the society will commit to a shared Rule of Life of Prayer, Scriptural Meditation, Hospitality, Generosity, Fasting, Sabbath, participation in the sacramental life of the Church, and Silence & Solitude, which each member will adapt to fit their personal needs. When laid out this way, a Rule of Life can sound overwhelming, but I promise that this is doable for anyone who chooses to participate. Yes, it will stretch us, but it is intended to form and mould us, not break us.
Ultimately, the Society's purpose is to practice repentance, spiritual discipline, and mutual encouragement in preparation for Easter. Recognizing that Lent is best lived not in isolation but within intentional community, the Society will meet weekly at 6:30 PM on Wednesdays to pray, read and meditate on Scripture, and support one another in the practices of prayer, fasting, and attentive living throughout the forty days. We will also discuss The Return of the Prodigal Son by Henri Nouwen, which we will use for formation through the season.
As part of the Society, you will receive a weekly Prayer Guide to support you through the season, which includes our daily scriptures for meditation, journaling pages, a reading plan for Nouwen's book, and more.
There is no cost associated with joining, just a decision to practice the season of Lent within an intentional community.
